Tutorial to Create Playing Cards in Photoshop
Step 13:
For the symbols, there is an easy but very effective method.Hit CRTL+U again and cycle through until you get to ‘Custom Shape’. In the options bar that appears at the top of the screen, click the drop down menu next to ‘Shape’ and you’ll get a whole host of symbols.
Step 14:
As with the card rectangle, create a new layer, drag and go to the Path panel.
Step 15:
CRTL+Click to select and create a new layer in the layer panel.
Step 16:
Fill it with any color.
Step 17:
Now click the little ‘f’ at the bottom of the layers panel and choose ‘Color Overlay’ from the menu. This is the layer style button.
Step 18:
Now that the heart is red, hit ‘V’ to activate the move tool, and ALT drag to copy to the opposite side.
Step 19:
Again, CRTL+T to enter transform mode and flip vertically.
Step 20:
Now instead of repeating all the process again, we’re going to cheat. Drag the white card layer to the ‘Create New Layer’ icon. This copies it.
Step 21:
Do the same with the letter A. Hide the red A by clicking the little eye next to the layer, and change the new layer with the type tool (T). Here I have made a 4.
Step 22:
Do the same with the other letter. You’ll see that it is automatically flipped.
Step 23:
Right, attention now! You will see that I have dragged the layers on the layer panel, and I have hidden them. What I want to do is make the two A’s, the two hearts and one of the white cards all one layer. For this we use the Merge Down feature (CRTL+E). Select Layer 1 and hit CRTL+E. You will see that ‘layer 1′ and ‘layer 1 copy’ become one layer. Now we can’t do this for text layers so what we must do first is right-click the text layers and choose ‘rasterize type’. Now we can continue merging down the layers.
Step 24:
Once the merging of the red card is finished, hit ‘V’ to activate the move tool and SHIFT+Right arrow to move it. You will also see in the image that I have renamed the layers. All you need to do is double click the layer, rename it and hit enter.
