Tutorial to Create a Postage Mark in Photoshop and Convert it into a Brush
Pages: 1 2
Step 9:
Pay attention now because we have done quite a few things. First, right-click the ‘Berlin’ layer and choose ‘Rasterize text’ from the list. This changes the text layer into a normal one. Then CRTL+Click this layer to select it. Lastly, click the little eye to the left of the Berlin layer and select the Background layer. Use the paint brush and try to leave spaces like before.
Step 10:
When you are happy with it, delete the Berlin layer and repeat this process to create the date.
Step 11:
We don’t need all the document so hit C to activate the Crop tool. Drag it around the postage mark and resize using the handlebars if necessary.
Step 12:
Hit enter to finish cropping, then press CRTL+ALT+I to bring up the Image Size screen. Reduce by 50%
Step 13:
To create our brush, go Edit->Define Brush Preset. When the screen appears, give your custom brush a name.
Step 14:
Now if you select the brush tool and scroll down the list of active brushes, you will find ours at the bottom.
Step 15:
The only problem is that when we close Photoshop we also erase our new brush. To avoid this, we need to save it to disk. Go->Edit->Preset Manager. Here you will find all the currently active brushes. Delete all of them except your Postage mark brush. Now click ‘Save Set’.
Step 16:
When we click save set, a screen appears asking us to name our new custom brush. The .ABR extension is what Photoshop uses for its brushes. We now have our brush saved to hard disk and ready to be used whenever we like.
